According to the story of Roman gods, Vulcan was the god of fire. His father was Jupiter, the king of the gods, and Juno was his mother, the queen of the gods. Having Jupiter and Juno as parents, Vulcan was expected to be quite handsome, but baby Vulcan was small and ugly. Juno was so surprised that she threw the babyon the top of Mount Olympus, the home of the gods. Vulcan fell down for a day and a night. Thetis, a sea-nymph, found him and treated him as her own son. Vulcan lived in Mount Etna on the island of Sicily. He worked in a shop inside a volcano. Using the fire from a volcano, Vulcan was able to make very powerful weapons for Roman gods, but he was kind and peaceful. He married Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. It was said that whenever Vulcan fought with his wife, he became so angry that sparks and smoke rose up from the top of the mountain, creating a volcanic eruption.
