The book "Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil" was written by Hannah Arendt and published in 1963. Arendt, a political philosopher who had to escape from the Nazis, wrote about a man named Eichmann who was on the trial for war crimes. Adolf Eichmann played a key role in implementing the 'Final Solution'. Managing and helping send millions of Jewish people to killing centers. he was among the major organizers of the Holocaust. He was indicted on 15 criminal charges, including crimes against humanity, war crimes, and crimes against the Jewish people.↵
What was shocking is that Eichmann seemed like a regular guy outside of his job. Arendt highlighted how this brutal criminal was an absolutely "normal" person in everyday and family life, in contrast to the brutality that he practiced in his "work." According to her, it happened when he didn't think for himself, just keep doing things the same way without questioning.↵ Defense of Eichmann for his actions :↵ 1. Obedience to Orders and Non-Decision-Making: I was not in : position to make decisions, and I was merely following the orders o the leadership. I would have faced severe consequences if I had no done my jobs.↵ 2. Lack of Direct Killing: I never personally killed anyone and was not directly involved in the physical act of murder.↵ 3. Bureaucrat and Moral Duty: I was just a bureaucrat who handled the logistics, had no control over the policies, and was fulfilling my moral duty by being loyal to my country and its leaders.↵ I didn't have a strong hatred of Jews or take pleasure in their suffering. I might be guilty in front of God, but I am legally not guilty. |
