Each year lots of people die of infections they caught while in the hospital. The number of these kinds of hospital deaths is much more than that of the deaths on US highways. The cause of the deaths is unsanitary conditions in the hospitals. The floors and doors in the hospitals might not be cleaned thoroughly. *Cooks and food handlers can easily infect food by not washing properly. Doctors might put on gloves without washing their hands first. As a result, the germs on their hands are transferred to the outside of the gloves. Thus, consumer groups warn patients to demand cleanliness. If patients see or suspect poor hygiene, they must tell someone immediately. It could be a matter of life or death.

The information that is emphasized on one occasion is not necessarily stressed on another occasion. Context determines how you experience and encode information. Accordingly, context is a major factor in determining how closely linked your memory code for an experience is to a particular retrieval cue. for example , suppose you went to a concert, and the most important parts of the experience to you were that your friend made you wait so long that you missed the first half-hour and that you ended up standing by the door because the seats were so bad. Two years later, when your friend says, "Do you remember that time we were at a concert and we ran into that woman from Telecom during the interval?", you are not likely to remember this event from this recall cue. Assuming you had been to a number of concerts together, this is not likely to be a great cue. On the other hand , if your friend says, "Remember that concert we were so late for? — You were so grumpy," that is much more likely to do the trick.

Some people travel the world without ever leaving their house; they do so by reading books about exotic locations. People who are afraid to fly can nevertheless immerse themselves in a far-off place. At the end of a good travel book, readers can feel as if they know a place they've never visited, even if they never want to go there. Armchair travel is, in fact, less dangerous and more comfortable than actual tourism. Unfamiliar customs and food that might make a traveler feel out of place actually seem very amusing to them. Many people read eagerly about a traveler getting food poisoning in a strange place or sitting on a plane that nearly crashes. Then they say to themselves, "What a relief it didn't happen to me!"
