Day 1↵
I left for the Galapagos Islands. My uncle, Ben, is working in the Darwin Research Center there. He invited me this summer vacation. The man in the airport looked into my backpack very carefully. I could not bring any food or living things at all to the Galapagos Islands, because people are worried that living things from another countries might have an impact on the ecological system there.↵ ↵ Day 2.↵ In the morning, I visited the Darwin Center. It is named after Charles Darwin because he wrote his famous book, The Origin of Species, after he saw the unique animals on these islands. Uncle Ben said, "The animals here are very unique because this island is isolated from the world outside. Scientists here study how the diversity can help us solve the environmental problems the world faces."↵ ↵ Day 3.↵ We went bird watching. We saw wild penguins. They didn't care whether we came or went. On the seashore, I saw a lot of pelicans diving into the water at the same time. I wanted to sit on the bench in front of me, but there was a seal lying on the beach. It looked me in the eyes. It was very cute.↵ ↵ Day 4.↵ This is our last day here. Uncle Ben and I went hiking to a volcanic area. I actually saw steam from the earth around the area. This island was made as a result of a volcanic eruption, so someday it could disappear, or it could get bigger. |
