In Korea, turtles symbolize a long life because they usually live for 30 to 50 years.↵

↵ The people of Tonj, South Sudan, were all crying.↵ ↵ Some children were walking with pictures of a man.↵ ↵ They had lost very special person.↵ ↵ The man in the picture was Father Lee Taeseok, a Korean priest and doctor.↵ ↵ In 2001, Father Lee Taeseok visited Tonj to help the sick and poor people there.↵ ↵ Life in Tonj was very difficult, so he soon returned to Korea.↵ ↵ However, he could not forget the people there.↵ ↵ So, he flew to Tonj again later that year.↵ ↵ From then on, Father John Lee, as the villagers called him. worked tirelessly as a doctor, teacher, and musician.↵ ↵ First, he built a hospital and treated 300 people a day.↵ ↵ Then he built a school.↵ ↵ He even taught math and music and made a band with the villagers.↵ When the music filled the air, the villagers was filled with hopes and dreams too.↵ ↵ ↵ Unfortunately, in 2008 Father Lee Taeseok discovered that he had cancer.↵ He tried to fight it, but he passed away two years later at the age of 48.↵ ↵ Many people were very sad to hear of his death.↵ ↵ Today, he is widely admired for his beautiful mind and great love for others. |
